How does the barbed end hold a hose in place?
The ridged end pushes inside the hose and its raised rings bite into the soft wall, resisting pull-off. It is shaped for heavy-duty 13.5 mm silicone hose.
Do I still need a clamp over the hose?
Yes. The barb grips on its own, but a hose clamp tightened over the barbed section is what makes the joint pressure-tight and leak-free, especially during transfers under pressure.
What does the threaded end connect to?
The 1/2 inch BSP male thread screws into a matching female BSP port on a tank, pump, valve or fitting, turning that threaded port into a hose connection.
