Oxygenation wand kit 650mm 2 micron stainless steel

Usage: This device is particularly good for fermentations that require a large population of yeast. Pilsners (or other beers fermented at low temperatures) or high gravity beers in particular will really benefit from getting high levels of oxygen into the wort at the start of fermentation.

Features: The wand kit includes the 60cm stainless steel 8mm OD wand and the aeration stone screws into the end using an MFL thread so it can easily be removed for autoclave or dip in acid solution. The kit also includes a stainless clamp and 2 meters of vinyl tubing.

Technical data: 650mm total wand length, 2 micron stainless sintered air stone.

Frequently asked questions about KL02097

When should I oxygenate the wort?

Oxygenation should be done immediately after cooling the wort to yeast addition temperature, before or immediately after yeast addition. Oxygen is essential for yeast in the initial aerobic phase, when cells reproduce and build healthy cell membranes. If fermentation is active, additional oxygenation should be avoided to avoid off-flavors.

Why is 2 micron stone recommended?

The 2 micron sintered stainless stone produces very fine bubbles with a large surface area that allows oxygen to effectively dissolve into the wort. This is especially important for Pilsners and high-density beers, where large amounts of dissolved oxygen are needed to support yeast viability during long, cool fermentations.

How to clean and disinfect the oxygenating stone?

The MFL threaded stone can be unscrewed from the rod for thorough cleaning. It can be autoclaved or soaked in a suitable acid-based cleaning solution to remove organic debris and microbes. After cleaning, rinse thoroughly with sterile water to ensure no chemical residue before next use.

Can I use this kit with pure oxygen?

Yes, the kit is designed to be used from a pure oxygen regulated cylinder, which is the most effective way to quickly achieve high dissolved oxygen levels. Always use a proper regulator, a sterile line filter and follow safety instructions. Compressed air can also be used, but provides lower oxygen levels.

Is the rod suitable for stainless fermentation vessels?

Yes. The 650mm stainless steel rod is long enough to reach most home and small commercial fermentation vessels. The stainless construction is fully compatible with wort and brewery cleaning products, ensuring a long service life and hygienic operation in a professional environment.
