Why is a special hose cutter important for Duotight fittings?
Duotight push-in fittings rely on a perfectly square cut to form a leak-proof seal with an internal O-ring. A clean, perpendicular cut with a special cutter avoids slanted or pinched hose ends that can cause leaks or poor installation. Scissors and knives should be avoided.
What hose sizes and materials does this cutter support?
The cutter fits 1/4", 5/16" and 3/8" hoses (6mm-10mm OD) in many poly materials including HDPE, PE, PEX, PP, NYLON, EVA and EVABarrier. It covers virtually all common beverage, gas and water lines in home brewing and tap beer systems.
How does the 8mm grip removal tip work?
The integrated 8mm nozzle is designed to press down on the Duotight grip evenly so that the hose can be released without damaging the fitting. Place the nozzle around the gripper, press gently and pull the hose out. This makes system disassembly and reconfiguration quick and tool-friendly.
Can the blade be replaced or sharpened?
The blade is made of hardened steel and designed for a long service life. In normal home brewing, it stays sharp for many years. The blade is not user replaceable; if cutting performance decreases, we recommend changing the tool to continue to provide the clean, right-angle cuts that push-in fittings require.
Is this tool suitable for food and beverage applications?
Yes. The cutter is designed to prepare food grade polyhose in beer, wine, cider and water systems. As with any tool, keep the cutting area clean and wipe the blade before use. The cutter itself does not come into contact with the liquid - only the hose is prepared for installation.
