Frequently asked questions about this product
Does the kit include everything I need to brew my first batch?
The kit supplies the full hardware set — a graduated brewing vessel with tap, a fermentation vessel with tap, thermometer strip and airlock, a bottle filling device, brewing spoon, the EMILY capper with crown caps, a cleaning brush, cleaning agent and a hydrometer. The one thing not included is the beer ingredient kit, which you buy separately to suit the style you want to make.
Why is cleaning and sanitising so important before brewing?
Wild yeast and bacteria are the main cause of off-flavours and spoiled batches, which is why the kit includes a cleaning agent and a dedicated bottle brush. Clean every surface that touches the wort or beer, then sanitise it before each use — this single habit does more for the final taste than almost anything else.
How do I know when fermentation is finished?
Use the included hydrometer and measuring cylinder. Take a gravity reading when fermentation starts and again over a few days near the end; when the reading stays the same for two to three consecutive days, fermentation has stopped and the beer is ready for bottling. Bottling too early risks over-carbonation.
How does bottling and capping work?
Fill bottles using the filling device fitted to the fermentation vessel tap, leaving a little headspace, then seat a crown cap and press it on with the EMILY capper. The kit includes a supply of crown caps to get you started; clean, undamaged glass bottles that take a 26 mm crown cap are what you need.
