Operating Principle:
The chiller uses counterflow technology, where hot wort and cooling water flow in opposite directions through separate channels. This technology ensures maximum heat transfer and efficient cooling process while maintaining beer quality.
Updates:
Gen 2.1 version includes reinforced 3 mm steel plate with three 4 mm mounting holes, ensuring even better durability and ease of use.
Coolossus Gen2 is the ideal choice for both professional brewers and demanding home brewers who want to achieve the best possible cooling results.
Frequently asked questions about this product
How does a counterflow chiller cool wort faster than an immersion coil?
In a counterflow chiller the hot wort and the cold water run in opposite directions through separate channels, so the wort always meets ever colder water as it travels. This continuous exchange chills the wort close to pitching temperature in a single pass, unlike an immersion coil that cools the whole kettle slowly.
Which connections does each side use and does flow direction matter?
The wort side uses 1.5 inch Tri Clover clamp fittings and the water side uses 1/2 inch BSPT threaded fittings. Connect the cold water so it flows against the wort direction, because the counterflow layout depends on the two streams moving opposite to each other.
How do I keep the narrow wort channel from clogging?
The wort tube has a small inner bore of roughly 12 mm, so recirculate hot cleaning solution through it immediately after each brew and rinse well. Letting sugary wort, trub or hop matter dry inside is the main cause of clogging and is far harder to remove later.
Can I control the final wort temperature?
Yes. The outlet temperature depends on the balance between wort flow and cooling water flow, so increasing the cold water rate or slowing the wort gives a colder output. On a hot day with warm mains water you may need to reduce the wort flow to reach your target.
