What is a reducing bush and when do I need one?
It adapts a larger thread to a smaller one - here 3/8" BSP male down to 1/4" BSP female - so you can fit a smaller component into a larger port without changing the rest of the assembly.
What does BSP mean for compatibility?
BSP (British Standard Pipe) threads have a specific form and pitch, and both ends here are BSP, so mate it only with other BSP threads; mixing with NPT can cause poor sealing or thread damage.
