    When should I use this reducing nipple?

    Use it to join two threaded connections of different sizes — here 1 1/2" and 1" — in a single fitting rather than stacking several adapters. Fewer joints means fewer potential leak points.

    What does 'BSPP flat sealing' mean for making the joint?

    BSPP is a parallel (straight) thread, so it does not seal on the threads themselves the way a tapered thread does. It seals against a flat face using a gasket or sealing washer, so that seal must be present and in good condition.

    How do I get a leak-free connection?

    Make sure the matching flat-seal washer or gasket is fitted and undamaged, seat the faces squarely, and tighten to compress the seal evenly. Thread tape alone will not seal a flat-sealing parallel thread.

    Do stainless threads need special care when tightening?

    Yes. Stainless steel threads can gall (cold-weld) if tightened dry or too quickly. Apply a suitable anti-seize compound or lubricant and tighten steadily so the threads do not seize together.
