Frequently asked questions about this product
How does VR COLOR stabilise the colour of red wines?
VR COLOR contains naturally active catechins processed with OxyProtect™ technology. These catechins form stable covalent bonds with anthocyanins (the pigments responsible for red colour), preventing them from falling out of solution over time. This results in longer-lasting, more vibrant colour that resists fading during ageing and storage.
When is VR COLOR most beneficial to add during winemaking?
VR COLOR is most effective when added early — during maceration or alcoholic fermentation — when anthocyanins are being extracted from grape skins. Early addition allows the catechins to bond with freshly released anthocyanins before they can be lost. It can also be used post-fermentation for colour correction in wines with tannin deficiency.
Can VR COLOR be sprinkled directly into the must without pre-dissolving?
Yes. Thanks to the IDP (Instant Dissolving Process), VR COLOR can be sprinkled directly onto the must or wine surface during pump-over. It dissolves completely without clumping, eliminating the need for a separate pre-dissolution step and making it very practical for cellar operations.
Does VR COLOR affect the taste or structure of the wine beyond colour?
Yes, in a positive way. By improving the tannin-to-anthocyanin ratio, VR COLOR also contributes to mouthfeel and structure. The catechin tannins add a soft, round quality without the harsh astringency that some tannin additions can cause. The wine gains both visual appeal and improved palate balance.
Can FERMETECH advise on the right tannin dosage for my specific grape variety?
Yes. Different grape varieties have vastly different natural tannin and anthocyanin levels. FERMETECH provides technical guidance to help you choose the right product and dosage for your variety, vintage conditions, and target wine style — ensuring optimal colour stability without over-tanning.
