      What is this refractometer used for?

      It is an optical instrument for measuring the density of honey, syrups and jam, aimed at beekeepers and food processors. A drop on the prism gives a quick reading of how concentrated the sample is.

      What scales does it have?

      It carries three scales read at once: Brix 58–90% (0.5% accuracy), water content 12–27% (1% accuracy) and Baumé 38–43° (0.5° accuracy). Having all three lets you read the value in whichever unit you work with.

      Why does honey water content matter?

      The water-content scale shows how ripe and storage-stable the honey is; honey above a certain moisture level can ferment in storage. Measuring it before bottling helps you judge quality and shelf life.

      How do I keep it accurate?

      It has a durable aluminium housing; wipe the prism clean and dry after each high-sugar sample and recalibrate periodically. Sticky residue left on the prism is the most common cause of drifting readings.
