    • Butterfly valve 2" Tri-Clamp stainless steel

Usage: Butterfly valves are known to be the most sanitary valve design which is why they are a favourite for home brewing hardware. These 2 Inch Tri Clover butterfly valves are able to hold significant amounts of pressure, made with high quality EPDM seals and can easily be serviced if required.

Unlike ball valves that have several cavities in them meaning stuff gets stuck inside the valve, butterfly valves are far more sanitary with no "cavities" where dormant liquid can hide and go off.

      Technical data:

      • Material: 304 Grade Stainless Steel
      • Port Size: 2 inch
      • Sealing Material: EPDM
      • Surface finish: 0.4 micron or better
      • Working Pressure: 0-1.6MPa (232PSI)
      • Working Temperature: -10°C to +135°C

⚠️ Important: Different solutions (high alcohol content, essential oils, solvents) may damage rubber and silicone parts. Ensure seal material compatibility with the liquid being used.

⚠️ Pressure vessel — for use under pressure. Max 1.6MPa (232PSI). Exceeding working pressure may cause deformation. Use a pressure gauge.

    • Frequently asked questions about KL14953

Why are butterfly valves better than ball valves for brewing?

Butterfly valves have a simple disc design with no internal cavities, making them more hygienic than ball valves. In ball valves, liquid can get trapped in the ball cavity, creating a risk of contamination. Butterfly valves allow full flow when opened and are easier to clean with the CIP method, which is why they are preferred in professional brewing.

What is the maximum working pressure?

The maximum working pressure is 1.6MPa (232PSI). Exceeding this may cause deformation of seals or valve body. Always use a pressure gauge when working under pressure. The valve is designed for temperatures from -10°C to +135°C, suitable for both cold fermentation and hot CIP cleaning.

      Is EPDM gasket food safe?

Yes, the EPDM seals used in this butterfly valve are food grade and suitable for beer, wort, water and most brewing liquids. However, EPDM is not compatible with high alcohol content (over 40%), essential oils or aggressive solvents. Consider PTFE or Viton seals for these.

How to clean and maintain the valve?

The valve can be cleaned using the CIP method with hot alkaline and acid solutions up to 135°C. For more thorough cleaning, the valve can be disassembled by loosening the Tri-Clamp connections. Periodically check the EPDM gasket for wear and replace if necessary. Store in a dry place when not in use.

What connections is this valve compatible with?

This valve uses standard 2-inch Tri-Clamp (also known as Tri-Clover) connections on both sides. To connect to pipes or tanks, you need Tri-Clamp flanges, gaskets and clamps (sold separately). The 2-inch size is the most common in craft brewing and meets typical brewery plumbing standards.
