    • Flask 500ml Erlenmeyer borosilicate glass graduated

Usage: Ideal for medium yeast starters using stir plates. Propagating yeast can take your beer to the next level, ensuring flavourful characters from the yeast. Instead of stressed out flavours that can occur when underpitching. If you are fermenting a lager we highly recommend doing large yeast starters to ensure the tastiness of your brew.

This 500mL (0.5L) flask is ideal for yeast storage or small yeast starters. If you are looking to make yeast starters for single batches, we would highly recommend to go the 3000mL flask with a 2L starter.

Features: Our Erlenmeyer Conical flasks are made from borosilicate science glass. If you're wanting to heat up your DME for a yeast starter, this flask is perfect! So if you're into whacky science experiments or simply just want to make large yeast starters, this is your best bet. We recommend using only a gas stovetop, not your electric stoves.

⚠️ Safety Information: Please exercise care when handling borosilicate glass. Though it has an incredible ability to withstand sudden temperature shocks, it should still be treated consciously with care. Cool all glassware slowly to prevent breakage. Do not take your boiled flask directly from the stovetop straight into a bath of ice water. Allow the flask to cool for a few minutes before running under water. Do not boil your flasks dry or dry them out using a stove (temperature should not exceed 140°C). Do not heat glassware that is etched, cracked, chipped, nicked, or scratched. Do not heat glassware directly on electrical heating elements.

    • Frequently asked questions about this product

What is this Erlenmeyer flask used for?

It is a graduated 500 ml borosilicate-glass Erlenmeyer flask, ideal for making medium yeast starters on a stir plate. Growing healthy yeast before pitching helps a beer ferment cleanly and develop good flavour.

Why does a yeast starter help my beer?

Propagating yeast first gives you enough healthy cells, which avoids the stressed, off-flavour characters that can occur from underpitching. For lagers especially, a large starter is recommended for a tasty result.

Why borosilicate glass and a conical shape?

Borosilicate glass withstands heat, so the flask can be boiled to sanitise wort and tolerate temperature changes without cracking. The conical Erlenmeyer shape lets you swirl the contents to aerate without spilling.

How do I use it safely with a stir plate?

Add wort and yeast, drop in a stir bar and run it on the stir plate to keep the yeast in suspension. Heat it gradually and use a flame-proof setup, since rapid heating can stress even borosilicate glass.
