    Filter preparation and maintenance

    For best results, soak the filter for one hour in a special solution before use:

    • Warm water
    • Citric acid (20 g/l)
    • Potassium metabisulfite (3g/l)

    After soaking, rinse the filter thoroughly with clean water. To ensure longer filter life, avoid using scented detergents when washing. This maintains the filter's neutrality and ensures a cleaner wine taste.

    Usage

    The filter is particularly effective for cleaning heavily cloudy wines and removing fermentation residues. Thanks to the high-quality cotton material, the filter is reusable and durable.

    Why does the filter need soaking before its first use?

    New cotton cloth is soaked for about an hour in a solution of warm water, citric acid (20 g/l) and potassium metabisulfite (3 g/l) and then rinsed. This conditions and sanitises the fabric so it does not impart off-flavours and filters cleanly from the first batch.

    Why avoid scented detergents when washing it?

    Fragranced detergents leave residues in the cotton that can transfer aromas into the wine. Washing without scented products keeps the filter neutral, protecting the clean taste of the next batch.

    What does it actually remove from the wine?

    It is designed to catch sediment, lees and fermentation residues, clarifying cloudy wine. It is a clarifying cloth filter rather than a sterile or fine-membrane filter, so it polishes appearance rather than removing micro-organisms.

    Is it really reusable, and how do I keep it lasting?

    Yes — it is a washable cotton filter meant for repeated use. Rinse it thoroughly after each use, wash without fragranced detergents, and dry it well to extend its life and keep it neutral.
