    Why is AISI 316 stainless steel preferred over AISI 304 for food and juice processing fittings?

    AISI 316 contains added molybdenum, which gives it markedly higher resistance to chlorides and acidic media. In juice and food production the fittings meet fruit acids and aggressive sanitising chemicals, and 316 withstands this corrosion far better than 304, giving a longer service life in demanding food environments.

    How should stainless threaded fittings be sealed so the connection stays leak-free?

    Wrap the threads with food-grade PTFE tape or use an approved thread sealant, and seat the fitting firmly without over-tightening. Over-tightening can deform parallel threads or damage a gasket seat, while a clean, properly wrapped thread gives a hygienic, leak-tight joint.

    How can I avoid thread galling when assembling stainless-steel fittings?

    Stainless threads can cold-weld (galling) when forced together. Start the thread by hand to avoid cross-threading, tighten slowly, and apply a food-grade anti-seize or PTFE. Using two wrenches to hold the mating part also prevents twisting stress on the connected equipment.

    How are these fittings cleaned and maintained in a food line?

    They tolerate clean-in-place and hot caustic or acid cleaning cycles. Rinse with clean water after sanitising, avoid steel wool or chloride bleach that can pit the passive surface, and periodically inspect threads and seals for wear so the connection stays hygienic.
