Frequently asked questions about TXP0031
How much water should be poured into the water lock?
Fill the water lock to the mark between the two chambers, about halfway. Too little water will not seal properly, too much water may spill out during active fermentation. Check the level every few days, especially in warmer rooms where water evaporates faster.
Can sulfite solution be used instead of water?
Yes, a 10% sulfite solution (metabisulfite) is recommended instead of plain water. This prevents the growth of microbes inside the water lock and gives wine or beer extra protection. If sulfite is not on hand, boiled and cooled water is also suitable.
What containers is this water lock suitable for?
The water lock is designed for 1-50 liter containers. The Ø60mm rubber stopper fits standard glassware and cylinders, and the 9mm connection hole fits most homebrew caps and seals.
Why doesn't my water lock appear for me?
Absence of bubbles may mean that fermentation has stopped, the temperature is too low, or there is an air leak at the cap. Check the tightness of the rubber cap, the water level and the fermentation temperature before you think the process has stopped.
How to clean the water lock between batches?
Open the water lock, rinse with warm water and clean with brewing detergent or mild detergent. Make sure the chambers are free of sediment and disinfect before the next fermentation to avoid cross-contamination between batches.
