Frequently asked questions about this product
Why is this bung conical rather than straight-sided?
The 17/22 mm taper lets one stopper fit a range of bottle-neck inner diameters. As you push it in, the cone self-centres and presses evenly against the glass, giving an airtight seal even when neck sizes vary slightly.
This is the solid version without a hole — when should I use it instead of a drilled bung?
Use a solid bung to fully close a bottle for storage or transport of a finished, still beverage. Choose the drilled version with an airlock only while the liquid is still fermenting and releasing CO2, because a solid bung would trap that pressure.
How do I keep it sealing well over many reuses?
Rinse it in warm water after each use, sanitise before reusing, and inspect for cracks, hardening or permanent deformation. Store it away from heat and direct sunlight, and replace it once it no longer springs back to its original shape.
Why might a bung leak or pop out, and how do I prevent it?
The usual cause is trapped pressure from ongoing fermentation, so never seal a still-active vessel solidly. Also make sure the neck is clean and dry, push the stopper in straight, and match the size band to your bottle neck rather than forcing an oversized one.
