Frequently asked questions about this product
Why must a pH electrode be stored in KCl solution rather than in water or left dry?
The glass bulb and the reference junction need to stay hydrated in a solution with the right ion concentration. Storing the electrode in plain water or letting it dry out degrades the junction and leads to slow, inaccurate readings.
How is the storage solution used day to day?
Keep some solution in the electrode's protective cap or storage bottle so the sensing tip stays immersed whenever the meter is not in use.
What does the 3 mol/L concentration do?
It matches the reference electrolyte inside many pH electrodes, keeping the junction stable so the meter holds its calibration and responds quickly the next time you measure.
Can distilled or tap water be used instead in a pinch?
No. Distilled or deionised water draws ions out of the reference junction and can permanently impair the electrode, so always top up with proper KCl storage solution.
