    Flask 3000ml Erlenmeyer borosilicate glass

    Brand

Erlenmeyer Conical Flask 3000ml (Borosilicate Glass) Ideal for medium-sized yeast starters using stir plates. Propagating yeast can take your beer to the next level, ensuring flavorful characteristics from the yeast. Instead, stress-induced flavors may occur when under-pitching.

Installation Installation service: we install the device on site according to the manufacturer's instructions, connect to the line (mechanical connections) and perform initial setup and test run. Price depends on location, access and scope of work. (price by agreement / quote)

      Features and Usage

Our Erlenmeyer conical flasks are made from high-quality borosilicate glass that you might see in laboratories with green smoky liquid coming out of it. If you want to heat up your DME for a yeast starter, these flasks are perfect! So, if you're interested in wacky science experiments or simply want to make large yeast starters, this is your best choice. We recommend using only a gas stove, not an electric stove.

White lab coat not included and will not transform back into a flask when heated again.

      Safety Instructions

Please exercise caution when handling these and other borosilicate glass products. There is a common misconception that borosilicate glass is virtually bulletproof and can withstand any extreme temperatures. This is not entirely true. Although it has an excellent ability to withstand sudden and drastic temperature changes compared to regular glass, it should still be handled consciously with care.

Cool all glassware slowly to prevent breakage, except for VYCOR glassware, which can go from high heat to ice water without damage. Do not take your boiling flask directly from the stove and place it in an ice bath. Although some people do this without problems, borosilicate glass is not designed for such use.

Please allow the flask to cool for a few minutes before running under water and then placing it in an ice bath; the slower you introduce flasks to temperature changes, the longer they will last. Going from fire to ice in seconds creates incredibly high stress on the glass structure. While the glass may withstand this sometimes, other times you may not be so lucky. If the temperature difference is large enough, it will shatter.

All borosilicate glass will eventually break after a certain number of heating/cooling cycles; it is impossible to determine exactly when, but this is a natural and inherent characteristic of the material. Please do not boil your flasks dry or dry them using a stove. The drying temperature should not exceed 140°C, which an open flame can easily exceed.

Do not heat glassware that is etched, cracked, chipped, or scratched. It is more prone to breaking. Do not heat glassware directly on electric heating elements. Excessive stress will be induced in the glass, which can result in breakage. Small bubbles less than 5 mm and not located directly on the bottom of the flask are an acceptable manufacturing blemish according to our instructions from multiple glass manufacturers.

      Usage Principle

The Erlenmeyer flask is primarily used for mixing, heating, and storing liquids in laboratories and home brewing. The conical design allows efficient mixing without splashing and promotes even heating of the liquid. When used for yeast starters, it helps keep the yeast clean and viable before adding it to beer.

    • Frequently asked questions about this product

What is this flask used for in brewing?

Making yeast starters, often on a stir plate, to propagate healthy yeast and avoid the off-flavours of under-pitching.

Can it be heated on any stove?

A gas stove is recommended; electric stoves are not recommended for heating it.

Why make a yeast starter, especially for lagers?

Lagers need a large, healthy yeast population, so a sizeable starter improves fermentation and flavour.

Does its shape suit stir-plate use?

Yes, the conical Erlenmeyer shape suits stir-plate yeast starters and helps keep the starter moving.
