American Oak Barrel 56L

High-quality 56-liter barrel made from American oak, perfect for aging wine, cider, or other beverages. The barrel is crafted from the highest quality American oak wood, which imparts a pleasant flavor bouquet and enriches the drink with tannins and vanillin.

The barrel is toasted on the inside, allowing the wood to release rich flavors and aromas into the beverage. The barrel's interior has a medium toast level, ensuring a balanced taste without excessive woody notes.

The barrel capacity is 56 liters, making it an excellent choice for both hobby winemakers and more serious home vintners. The larger barrel allows for aging larger quantities at once, ensuring a more uniform and stable maturation process.

Usage Principle

Oak barrels are used for aging beverages and enriching their flavor. Before first use, the barrel must be filled with water and soaked to allow the wood to expand and make the barrel leak-proof. Then the barrel is filled with the desired beverage and left to age. During aging, the drink is enriched with oak aromas and flavors, becoming smoother and more complex.

Frequently asked questions about this product

Does a new oak barrel need preparation before the first use?

Yes. A new barrel must be swelled with water before you fill it: add cold water and let it stand until any weeping through the staves stops and the joints close up. This conditioning is a normal, essential step that seals the 56-litre barrel and prevents leaks.

What does the medium toast level do to the drink?

The inside is toasted to a medium level, which releases oak tannins and vanillin in a balanced way. It adds structure plus vanilla and gentle spice notes, without the heavy charred character of a darker toast.

How long should I age in it, and does the size matter?

Smaller barrels have more wood contact per litre, so they impart oak character faster than large ones. Taste regularly rather than following a fixed time; the 56-litre size lets you match the ageing to your batch.

How do I look after the barrel when it is empty?

Never let a used barrel dry out, or the staves shrink and it will leak. Keep it filled, or clean it and store it with a keeping solution following normal barrel care, in a cool, humid place away from direct heat.
