What does the T-port configuration let me do?
The T-port lets you control flow direction between three ports, for example routing liquid from a common port to either of two outlets, or combining flows. This makes it useful for brew pots, keggle setups and system upgrades where you need to switch a line between destinations.
How do the three connections attach?
All three connections are 1/2" BSP female thread, so you thread your 1/2" BSP male fittings into each port. Using a suitable thread sealant such as PTFE tape helps achieve a leak-free joint.
Where is a 3-way valve useful in a brewing system?
It suits brew pots, keggle setups and system upgrades. A single 3-way valve can take the place of two separate valves where you need to send wort to either a chiller or a pump, or switch between filling and recirculating, which simplifies the plumbing.
How should a 3-way ball valve be maintained?
Like any ball valve in contact with wort, it should be taken apart and cleaned periodically so sugars and residue do not build up around the ball and seats, which can cause sticking or leaks. Operating it through its full travel while cleaning helps flush all three ports.
