What can I do to stop the valve seizing if it is rarely operated?
Cycle it fully open and closed from time to time. When a ball valve stays in one position for a long period the seats can take a set and the ball becomes stiff; periodic operation keeps it moving freely.
Is it meant for adjusting flow or only for shutting it off?
It is an on/off valve. Leaving it half-open throttles the flow over the seat edge and wears the seats prematurely. For flow regulation choose a valve designed for that purpose.
Why is AISI 316 a good choice for food processing?
AISI 316 offers strong corrosion resistance, including against acidic products, and is easy to keep hygienic. That makes it well suited to fruit, berry and juice processing lines.
Does the pipework need support on either side of the valve?
Yes. Let the connected pipes carry their own weight rather than hanging from the valve. Unsupported pipe loads can strain the threaded connections and cause leaks over time.
