What is this knee used for?
A 90° elbow is most commonly installed between the conical outlet of a fermenter (such as the FermZilla Tri-Conical) and the butterfly valve. It directs the flow at a 90° angle, making it easier to eject the precipitate and yeast into the collection vessel without disturbing the main batch.
Is AISI 304 suitable for brewing and food use?
Yes. AISI 304 stainless steel is a standard food grade material widely used in breweries, dairy and food industries. It is corrosion-resistant, easy to clean and disinfect, and does not give the product an off-flavor.
Does the kit include a clip and gasket?
The product is supplied with the knee only. Tri-Clamp clamps and gaskets are sold separately, allowing for a choice of gasket material (EPDM, silicone, PTFE) based on process temperature and cleaning chemicals used.
How to clean the knee?
The knee is suitable for CIP cleaning with standard brewery detergents and disinfectants (PBW, lye, peracetic acid). For manual cleaning, remove the fitting, rinse thoroughly and disinfect before reuse. Tri-Clamp connections allow quick disassembly for inspection.
