Frequently Asked Questions
What is the temperature range of the cooling plate?
The cooling plate is designed to circulate coolant through a 0.44m² exchange surface, allowing for precise temperature control throughout the fermentation cycle. The actual temperature that can be reached depends on the external cooling device (glycol cooler, etc.) and the surrounding environment. For lager fermentation at 8-12°C or ale fermentation at 18-22°C, standard glycol systems work efficiently.
Is AISI 304 Stainless Steel Food Grade?
Yes, AISI 304 is a fully food grade stainless steel widely used in the brewing, wine and dairy industries. It is corrosion resistant, does not react with beer acids and is easily disinfected. The mirror-polished inner surface prevents bacteria from adhering and facilitates cleaning between batches.
How to connect the cooling plate to the cooling system?
The cooling plate has two 1/2" M connections for coolant in and out. You can connect it to a glycol cooler or a circulating cooling unit using suitable insulated hoses. The 1.11L internal volume of the plate ensures efficient heat exchange with a minimum amount of coolant.
Can this gärbehält also be used for other drinks?
Although optimized for beer, the gärbehälter is suitable for any beverage that requires temperature-controlled fermentation or cold storage, including cider, kombucha or wine. The stainless steel construction is fully compatible with acidic liquids and the airlock allows safe escape of CO₂ during active fermentation.
How is a flat bottom cleaned?
The rounded and welded flat bottom eliminates sharp corners where debris could collect, making cleaning easy. Use standard brewery cleaners (lye or PBW) followed by a sanitizing solution rinse. The bottom valve allows efficient drainage of yeast sediments before CIP cleaning.
