Frequently asked questions about this product
Is this tub certified food-safe for storing wine and must?
Yes, this tub is made from HDPE (high-density polyethylene) that meets food-grade standards. It is suitable for direct contact with grape marc, wine must, and other food products. HDPE is chemically inert and does not leach substances into your product, ensuring safe storage for winemaking applications.
Can I install a tap on this tub for draining liquids?
Yes, the tub comes with a pre-marked tap installation point, making it easy to drill and fit a 1/2" tap. This allows convenient draining of free-run juice from grape marc without tipping the heavy container. FERMETECH can advise on the correct tap type and installation method for your specific needs.
How many of these tubs can be stacked safely?
The truncated cone design allows nesting and stacking when empty, saving considerable storage space. When stacking filled tubs, limit to 2 high maximum on a flat, level surface. The HDPE material is strong but heavy loads can deform the rim over time. Always ensure the bottom tub is on solid, level ground.
Is this tub resistant to outdoor weather and UV exposure?
Yes, the HDPE material is both UV-resistant and weather-resistant, making it suitable for outdoor use during harvest season. It won't crack, fade, or become brittle from sun exposure. However, for long-term storage of product, a cool, shaded area is still recommended to maintain optimal temperature and quality.
What cleaning and sanitisation methods are recommended?
Clean with warm water and a food-safe alkaline detergent after each use. For sanitisation, use a sulfite solution (5–10 g/hL) or a food-grade sanitiser. Avoid abrasive brushes that could scratch the interior surface, as scratches can harbour bacteria. Rinse thoroughly with clean water before reuse. HDPE tolerates most common winemaking cleaning chemicals.
