Frequently asked questions about this product
What thickness of metal can this 22mm punch handle?
It is rated for mild sheet steel up to 3mm thick and stainless steel up to 1.5mm thick. Staying within these limits keeps the punch and die sharp and gives a clean cut; thicker or harder metal can damage the tool.
Why choose a hole punch over a drill bit or hole saw?
The punch shears the metal in a single action, leaving a clean, burr-free hole that needs no filing or cleanup. Carbide drill bits and hole saws tend to grab, wander and leave rough edges, which is a particular problem on thin stainless steel.
What fittings does the 22mm hole suit?
A 22mm hole is sized for 5/8 inch tap shanks and similar brewery hardware, so it suits kegerator builds, fridge-door tap installations and tap-shank mounting.
Do I need a pilot hole before punching?
Yes. The set works by drilling a small pilot hole, passing the draw bolt through it, then tightening so the die pulls through and shears the full 22mm hole. The pilot hole centres the punch for an accurate, round result.
