Drill bit 4-22mm HSS stepped
Usage: Professional HSS step drill bit for drilling into stainless steel kegs, fermentation vessels, pots and other metal products. Titanium Nitride coating ensures longer service life and reduced friction.
Features:
- Drill Speed: 200-800 RPM
- Can Drill Hole Sizes: 4mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 16mm, 18mm, 20mm, 22mm
- Coating: Titanium Nitride Coating
- Suitable for: Metal, wood, plastic
- Self-starting tip (no pilot hole required or center punch)
Technical data: High Speed Steel (HSS) construction. Ideal hole sizes: up to 20mm for 1/2inch threaded products, up to 22mm for 5/8inch products such as tap shanks. Can also be used to drill pilot holes for hole punches.
Warnings: For best results in stainless steel or metal, drill slowly (less than 600rpm). Use significant pressure when drilling and apply cutting lubricant to keep the bit and metal cold. Fast drill speeds will cause overheating and reduce bit hardness and lifespan.
⚠️ Important: Always use protective equipment (safety glasses, gloves). Do not exceed maximum drill speed of 800 RPM. Use cutting lubricant to prevent overheating. Overheating will permanently damage the drill bit.
Frequently asked questions about KL09447
What hole sizes does this drill make?
The step drill makes holes in 10 sizes: 4mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 16mm, 18mm, 20mm and 22mm. Up to 20mm is suitable for 1/2" threaded products, while 22mm is suitable for 5/8" products such as faucet connections.
What is the maximum drilling speed?
Recommended drilling speed is 200-800 RPM. For best results in stainless steel, drill slowly, under 600 RPM. Exceeding 800 RPM will cause overheating, which will permanently damage the titanium nitride coating and reduce the hardness of the drill.
Do I need a pilot hole or core centering?
No, the drill has a self-starting tip that eliminates the need for a pilot hole or core centering. Just apply firm pressure and start drilling slowly. For thick stainless steel, the use of a cutting lubricant is strongly recommended to reduce heat.
Is it suitable for drilling kegs and fermentation vessels?
Yes, this cage is specially designed for stainless steel kegs, fermentation vessels, pots and metal products. The titanium nitride coating extends service life and reduces friction, making it an ideal solution for homebrewers to install taps, thermowells or valves.
How to avoid overheating?
Drill slowly (less than 600 RPM), apply strong downward pressure, and use plenty of cutting fluid to keep the drill and metal cool. Take short breaks between drilling steps. Overheating destroys the coating and hardness — this damage is permanent and irreversible.
