Why are there two valves at different heights?
The 1-inch bottom valve empties the tank completely and clears sediment, while the higher 3/4-inch sampling tap lets you draw a taste or check clarity without disturbing the settled layer at the bottom.
Why is it suited to spirits and oils specifically?
These are non-corrosive, low-water liquids that store well in inert stainless steel without picking up taint; the sealed tank protects them from light and air that would otherwise oxidise oil or weaken spirit aromatics.
Should the tank be filled completely to the top?
Leave some headspace rather than filling to the brim, both because the stated volume can vary by up to about 10 percent from production tolerances and because a small air gap eases sampling and movement without spillage.
What maintenance keeps it ready for long-term storage?
Clean and fully dry the interior before filling, sanitise it for spirits, and check both valve seals for tightness; trapped moisture or a weeping valve is what spoils an otherwise long, stable storage.
