Frequently asked questions about this product
What beverages and food products can be stored in this drum?
The Europa 100L drum is designed for storing and preserving liquid food products including wine, beer, cider, olive oil, vinegar, and fruit juices. Its AISI 304 (18/10) food-grade stainless steel ensures no flavour transfer or contamination during storage. It is particularly popular among small-scale winemakers and craft brewers.
How do I install a tap on this drum?
The drum comes with a pre-fitted 1/2" threaded opening for tap mounting. The tap is not included and must be purchased separately. When installing, use teflon tape on the thread to ensure a leak-proof seal. Tighten the tap until it points straight — do not over-tighten beyond the thread endpoint.
Can this drum be used for fermentation or only storage?
While primarily designed as a storage vessel, it can be used for short-term fermentation of wine or cider if properly equipped with an airlock. The 230mm opening allows easy addition of ingredients and cleaning. For dedicated fermentation, however, consider our fermenters with built-in airlocks and thermometers for better process control.
How should I clean the welded bottom to prevent sediment buildup?
The sophisticated welded bottom technique was specifically designed to prevent organic matter sedimentation. After each use, rinse with warm water, then clean with a food-safe alkaline detergent. For stubborn residues, use citric acid solution (20 g/L). Always rinse thoroughly with clean water. The smooth welded surface makes cleaning significantly easier than traditional riveted drums.
Does FERMETECH provide guidance on long-term wine storage in this drum?
Yes, our team can advise on optimal storage conditions. For wine, ensure the drum is filled as completely as possible to minimise headspace and oxidation. Store in a cool, dark environment at 12–16°C. Sulfite levels should be checked periodically. Contact FERMETECH support for personalised storage recommendations based on your specific beverage.
