How does paraffin oil work?
Paraffin oil is poured over juice or wine, where it forms a protective layer. Since the oil is lighter than juice, it always stays on the surface and doesn't mix with the beverage. This protective layer:

- Helps preserve apple juice freshness for several months

How does the oil protect stored juice or wine?
Poured on top of the liquid, the oil floats because it is lighter than juice or wine and forms a continuous layer that blocks contact with air. That barrier helps prevent oxidation and unwanted fermentation while the batch is stored.
What is it used for on a floating-lid tank?
It seals the gap around a floating lid and lubricates the lid's seal, so the lid can move with the liquid level while still keeping air out. This keeps the headspace protected even as the tank empties.
How much oil do I need and how is it removed?
You only need enough to form a thin continuous film across the surface or around the seal. Because it stays on top and does not mix in, it can be drawn or skimmed off before serving or bottling.
Does the oil affect the taste of the drink?
No. It is food-grade, tasteless and odourless and stays separate from the liquid, so it does not alter flavour. Use a clean utensil when applying it to avoid introducing contaminants.
How should the oil be stored?
Keep it sealed in a clean, cool place away from strong odours, since the material keeps essentially indefinitely when closed. Avoid contamination by not returning used oil to the bottle.
