How do I work out the right dose for my wine?
Always start with a bench trial on a small sample to find the lowest effective amount, because too much carbon strips out desirable aromas and colour along with the faults you are trying to remove.
What is the correct way to use it?
Add the carbon to the wine, stir for about 15 minutes to disperse it, let it settle completely, decant the clear wine off the sediment and then filter to remove the remaining fine particles.
What problems is activated carbon used to correct?
It is mainly used to reduce off-odours and unwanted tastes and to lighten browned or over-coloured wine, acting as an adsorbent rather than a flavour additive.
What are the most common mistakes to avoid?
